Part of being HUMAN is our overwhelming need to think, think, think, think, think. The more we tend to live in our minds thinking about what was and what may have been, or, what might happen, the less time we spend enjoying the beauty of the present moment.
It is through our ability to think that we create stories about what is, and, these stories create predictable emotions. For example, if you have created a story about being rejected by someone in your past, the predictable emotions are going to be sadness, despair, bitterness, anger, low self-esteem and so forth. These emotions then fuel the thinking, which supports the story, which creates the emotions. And so the cycle continues, manifests and grows roots which go deep.
And, it all is controlled within the mind. When we are able to start becoming the observer of our thinking it causes a momentary gap which allows for clarity and the possibility of a new story. A better story - perhaps based on fact and not assumptions. It also allows a moment in time for us to witness the insanity of our thinking. After all, the definition of insanity is when a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality! And, so often, the foundation of our story is all fantasy - made up through the lenses of our experiences in life to date.
